Eduard Abashia, a lecturer at the Department of Psychology of the Dnipro Institute of PJSC HEI "IAPM", a legal expert, psychologist at the Amur-Nizhnodniprovskyi District Department of the State Institution "Probation Center" branch in Dnipropetrovsk region, and a member of the International Association of Psychologists and Counselors for Sexual Education, provides the following information. The professional International Day of Education Workers was established by UNESCO in 1994. We remind you that World Teachers' Day is celebrated on October 5th. Education Workers' Day is celebrated in Ukraine on the first Sunday of October according to the Presidential Decree No. 513/94 dated September 11, 1994. In 2024, this holiday falls on October 6th.
The holiday traces its history back to 1965 when, during the Soviet era, it was celebrated universally in all republics of the Soviet Union according to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated September 29, 1965 (and confirmed by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 1, 1980 "On Holidays and Memorable Dates").
After the collapse of the USSR, Teachers' Day in Ukraine has been consistently celebrated on the first Sunday of October, only the holiday received a new name - Education Workers' Day.
According to Part 2 of Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine "On Education", the levels of education are:
- preschool education;
- primary education;
- basic secondary education;
- specialized secondary education;
- first (initial) level of vocational (vocational-technical) education;
- second (basic) level of vocational (vocational-technical) education;
- third (higher) level of vocational (vocational-technical) education;
- professional pre-higher education;
- initial level (short cycle) of higher education;
- first (bachelor's) level of higher education;
- second (master's) level of higher education;
- third (educational-scientific/educational-creative) level of higher education.
In the system of extracurricular education and adult education (including postgraduate education), partial qualifications can be obtained (Part 3 of Article 10 of the Law of Ukraine "On Education").
Today, education workers in Ukraine are teachers, lecturers, trainers, educators, speech therapists, vocational training instructors, pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical workers, managers, etc., - noted the psychologist.
