A lecturer from the Department of Psychology at the Dnipro Institute, Private Joint Stock Company of Higher Educational Institution "MAUP," a legal expert, psychologist of the Amur-Nyzhnodniprovsk District Department of the State Institution "Probation Center" in the Dnipropetrovsk Region, and member of the International Association of Psychologists and Consultants on Sexual Education, Eduard Abashia, informs the following. Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an annual event held from October 24 to 31 with the aim of improving awareness of media and information literacy for all, acknowledging the progress made in this area. This week was initiated by UNESCO in 2012.

Media and information literacy is defined as the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to identify when and what information is needed, where and how to access it, how to critically evaluate and organize it after receiving it, and how to ethically use it. Education, critical analysis, and interpretation skills are included in this concept, which goes beyond communication and technological tools.

Oral, print, and digital information resources are included in media and information literacy. In an increasingly digitalized and interconnected world, media and information literacy is a fundamental human right that promotes social inclusion. It can help bridge the gap between those with access to vast amounts of information and those without it.

People familiar with the functions of artificial intelligence, the metaverse, media and information systems, and the contexts in which these activities are carried out gain more opportunities through media and information literacy.

Each year, this week-long event is an opportunity to celebrate past achievements in ensuring access to media and information literacy for all, as well as to highlight the importance of increasing media and information literacy in the interest of fostering global civic consciousness: understanding, trust, resilience, well-being, and more.
