The Department of Psychology and Social and Humanitarian Disciplines informs citizens that a stroke can happen suddenly, but rapid recognition of symptoms and timely medical assistance can save lives and reduce the risk of severe consequences.
Pay attention to the main signs of a stroke: sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm, or leg — especially on one side of the body; facial drooping; speech or understanding impairment; sudden problems with vision, balance, or coordination. If any of these symptoms appear, immediately call emergency medical services at 112 or 103. Do not wait for the condition to improve, and do not try to get to the hospital on your own.
Prevention begins with taking care of your health: monitor your blood pressure, quit smoking, maintain physical activity, eat a balanced diet, and follow the recommendations of your doctor and other healthcare professionals.
The Mental Health Center reminds: recovery from a stroke can affect not only a person's physical but also emotional state. The support of loved ones and the help of specialists are important at every stage.
Knowing the signs of a stroke and calling for help in a timely manner can save lives.
