On August 24, Ukraine marks one of the most important dates in its modern history — Independence Day.
There are things we do so regularly that we stop noticing anything special about them. Independence is much the same: we've grown used to it like a good habit — choosing, every day, to study, to work, to grow, instead of waiting for some perfect moment "when things settle down." And if you think about it, there's something deeply Ukrainian in that: not postponing life until later, but living and acting right now.
For our institute, this looks quite ordinary — and that's exactly the point. This year, applicants once again submitted their documents and chose their specialties. Students once again wrote term papers, prepared for exams, and argued their points in seminars. Lecturers once again held classes, graded papers, and made it (or sometimes didn't quite make it) to their deadlines. Nothing heroic at first glance — just the ordinary academic rhythm. But the ability to keep that rhythm going, when everything around tries to break it, is the simplest and yet most convincing proof that independence isn't an abstraction — it's the daily practice of real people.
One could reflect at length on what this date means for the country as a whole. Or one could simply acknowledge: the fact that the institute opened its doors — both virtual and real — for another academic year, welcomed new students, and graduated new specialists, is already, in itself, a small but meaningful victory.
So we congratulate everyone — students, faculty, applicants, and graduates — on the holiday. We wish you inspiration, stability, an engaging academic year, and hope that all your plans, both personal and national, come true sooner than expected.
